King Pine is a great family hill
It is hard to find a ski mountain that accommodates all ages and when you are teaching young ones and trying to not break the bank as well it gets even trickier. As far as I can tell everyone in my family pretty much learned how to ski or had a first ski experience at King Pine.
What can I tell you about this hill? Well, it is a hill, with only 350 ft. of vertical one would wonder how this can be a place that we like to spend our time. Don’t get me wrong, we love the big mountains but KP has several things going for it.
- It has a good variety of terrain. From Slow Pokey to Pitch pine, you can find the appropriate amount of challenge and you can do it a million times to get it right if you want.
- Snow making is well done. When other places are struggling, they can get the whole mountain open. Less to cover, so cover they can.
- You are no more than 5 minutes from anyone else on the hill. So, as your kids grow enough to be allowed to ski without you, well, it is a good first place to give it a try.
- Night skiing is available and fun for those who want to have a full day when they could not get to the hill early enough.
- It is less expensive than many of the big mountains.
My two boys learned to ski around age 3 starting out at KP and with the mountains convenience and a ton of help from my relatives, it made it easy to let everyone ski but let the kids get the rest they need. When they were too small to ski, we traded off entertainment in the lodge. Also, we have pictures of our boys and my nephews sleeping on the lunch tables on top of some coats. I was known as the one who could get them to sleep in a loud bustling lodge.
